I am KATAOKA Mamiko. I create "The Cork Dolls " . They are tiny dolls . I put together some pieces of used corks along with screws, nails, pins, and every possible thing for creation. So I'm always looking for every small pieces of junk for something new or for an interesting idea. SAKANO Jun , a photographer, take pictures of the cork dolls. I collaborate with him in creating this series of " The Cork Dolls " work. First I finish making the cork dolls, then we discuss about scenes and lighting, and prop them. After we direct the cork dolls, the acts, they can always play perfectly ! Since I created the first cork doll No,001 in 1993, they all have their own production numbers on their backs with a stamp. The latest doll is No,333 . (This is the figures for July, 2005. ) On this web site, I will show you my cork dolls, the gallery of the works, and gift shops. Please make yourself at home ! I am often asked "How do you collect a lot of corks ?" I don't drink so much, but all of my friends who can drink quite a lot keep many corks for me and give me whenever I meet them. So I have tons of used corks !
